Description

NGC253 (aka Sculptor Galaxy, Silver Coin or Silver Dollar Galaxy, Caldwell 65) is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the southern constellation of Sculptor. It is one of the brightest galaxies in the sky, and can be easily observed with binoculars from southern latitudes. NGC253 is about 11.4 million light years from the Sun.

NGC253 is the brightest member of the Sculptor Group of galaxies, which is one of the closest galaxy groups to our Local Group.
